Goal and Mission
Horizon Group is an independent theater company founded in 2010. Our mission is to create more solidarity and compassion in Hungarian society. We believe in art’s role and duty to change society, and we consider it our task to strengthen individual and collective self-reflection, as living in a healthy and joyful society is in our shared interest. Our goal is to provide artistic experiences with high-quality theater performances, art projects, community activities and educative theater pedagogy workshops; and to initiate a dialogue that changes perspectives about topics that are often treated as taboo or as problems specific to certain groups or families. It is important for us to address societal groups whose voices are rarely heard and to bring our programs to marginalized communities.
What do we do and for whom
Our group currently has 10 performances in repertory. Our performance language is contemporary, occasionally experimental, displaying a range of genres and styles. We develop most of our productions collectively from an idea or material and we perform for all age groups, from preschool to adults. All our performances for adults offer an honest confrontation with ourselves, which may be very funny or painful. Our youth performances develop young people’s emotional intelligence, self-expression, awareness, emotional regulation and debate skills, and each youth performance is followed by a workshop or conversation.
In 2024, we gave 102 performances to 5,400 viewers. We regularly collaborate with civil and professional organizations as well as educational institutions.
The group is led by actor and drama-pedagogy expert Yvette Feuer. We work together with invited artists in the different productions: actors, theater education specialists, directors, musicians, choreographers, writers, poets, composers and other professional experts. We perform in Budapest and all over the country as well as abroad; and we regularly perform at festivals. Our contributions to theater and society have earned several awards.
